Captain's Reserve: LIMDU

Whole Sailor Story:

Since commissioning, Old Salt Coffee Company has operated under a few standing principles: premium coffee, maritime heritage, giving back, bringing Shipmates together over a good cup—and, of course, Death to Decaf.

That last one was not established as a marketing slogan. It was a standing order.

Then reports began arriving. Some Shipmates wanted to hoist a mug after dinner without staring at the overhead until 0200. Others had been directed to reduce caffeine or determined that another full-strength pot created more excitement than the tactical situation required.

Situation understood. Request respected. Historically, request denied.

But orders change.

Captain’s Reserve: LIMDU is Old Salt Coffee Company’s first decaf, made with coffee from Mexico and roasted to a medium profile. It delivers a smooth, medium-bodied cup with notes of chocolate malt and graham cracker—because securing from caffeine should never require securing from good coffee.

LIMDU is decaffeinated using a water process that removes caffeine without relying on solvent-based decaffeination. Green coffee is soaked in water to draw out caffeine and flavor compounds. The resulting coffee extract is filtered through activated charcoal to remove the caffeine, then used to help preserve the coffee’s flavor during the decaffeination process.

The result is a decaf designed to retain the character of the original coffee while removing the overwhelming majority of its caffeine. No surrender. No lowering of standards. Just a proper cup for Shipmates operating under reduced caffeine orders.

This is Old Salt Coffee Company’s first decaf, a development the Captain has authorized under protest. Death to Decaf remains in effect. New orders may simply have been received.

As part of the Captain’s Reserve series, LIMDU is a limited-run coffee selected for Shipmates looking for something beyond standard issue. Future availability remains subject to the needs of the service and the mood of the Captain.
